Well, I've used the beta for a week now and I have to say I'm impressed. I
originally bought Warp redspine when it first came out and it left a less than
favorable impression.. I ran it for a while then dropped it for about a year. Warp
connect solved a few problems I had but I never did an installation without at
least one problem. The merlin beta installed without a hitch. The voice navigation
is currently my favorite feature. At this point I navigate my entire system using
only voice. The only thing I have to type, outside of applications, is my lockup
password. For a beta, it seems very stable as well. I ran beta NT 4.0 for a while
and it looked like it was thrown together at the last moment. All of the online
docs referred to Win95, and I had to reinstall it at least twice due to unrecoverable
desktop problems. I've had the beta "crash" a couple of times, however, these
were all handled by the system in the form of a desktop reboot, and were usually
caused by me poking around.

Unfortunately, the numlock is still turned off at boot. There IS an option to turn
off window-close-confirmation, so now we dont have to confirm when we
close an os/2 or DOS window. Yay! As most people know, they added full window
dragging which was one of the reasons I ran object desktop. So far everyone I've
shown the system to said it looks like a big improvement. It's very impressive to
say "Move-window-right-20" and watch the current window sliiiiiide to the right.
Also, the opening of folders is pretty much obsolete. Instead of opening Os/2
System->System Setup->Install/Remove->Selective install, you just say "Open
selective-install" and you're there. I've changed the voice nav. wake up command
to "computer". Now if I could only say "RED ALERT" and have sirens when I got
a trap. I'll have to work on that.

So far all of my apps run fine (except for DOOM which is still silent). Haven't
tested the win32s support yet, due to lack of win32s apps. The config.sys is
the same, and can be tweaked the same way. The only major difference is the
size. I installed EVERYTHING (except networking) and it used about 350 megs
of space.. this is with 32k clustering so it's a little smaller than that in reality.
The minimum seems to be around 100-110 MB of space. This is excluding non
essentials like DOCS and the bonus pack.
